  • MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú Celebrates APID Heritage Month in April – MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú will host several events celebrating Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi Heritage Month in April. The full series of events is available on .
     
  • MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú Receives Seals for Carnegie Classifications - Last spring, MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú earned national recognition as one of just 27 institutions to receive both the Research 2 (R2) and Opportunity Colleges and Universities (OCU) Carnegie Classifications. Today, we’re proud to that represent this achievement. These designations reflect what defines The Beach: advancing impactful research while expanding access, opportunity, and upward mobility for our students.

  • Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Combined Choirs and Wind Symphony Journey to Reno Together - Three busloads of choir and band members from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music journeyed to Reno, Nevada March 19-21 in order to perform a newly commissioned work for Band and Choir by Jake Runestad entitled, Vincent's Sky. More than 100 students made the trip and participated in choral and band exchanges with area high schools before taking center stage at the College Band Directors National Association Conference, where they were celebrated for their exceptional performance of Runestad's new work and the sophistication and feeling they brought to every aspect of their performances. Congratulations to our Combined Choirs and Wind Symphony, and to their faculty leaders - Dr. Jonathan Talberg, Director of Choral Activities, and Dr. Jermie Arnold, Director of Bands and Director of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music.

  • Dr. Laurie Huning Published in Science Journal - Dr. Laurie Huning from the Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management Department has published an article in the March 26th edition of Science. Her paper is entitled, "Cascading impacts of natural disasters in a connected world," and discusses the importance of including cascading impacts in our risk and management models as extreme events become more severe in the future. Science is considered one of the world's top academic journals for publishing highly significant scientific research, reviews, and analysis. 

  • Master of Public Health Student Receives Prestigious Fellowship - Mannat Tiwana, recent MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú Master of Public Health graduate, has been selected as a Fogarty LAUNCH Fellow through the Northern Pacific Global Health Leader’s program for the 2026-2027 cohort. Her research interests focus on oral health in HIV/AIDS patients.
     
  • Five MPA Alumni Named in MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú 49 Under 49 List - Five (MPA) program—Frederick Griefer, Connor Lock, Robert Moya, Miles Nevin, and Karlen Nurijanyan—were named in MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú's 49 Under 49 list. Their recognition reflects what public service leadership looks like in action, which is exactly what the MPA program is designed to cultivate. The 49 Under 49 award recognizes MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú alumni age 49 and under who have demonstrated dedication, excellence, and growth in their professional, philanthropic, and personal endeavors.

  • Moot Court Team Wraps Up Successful Season - MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú's Moot Court team had a great season, with four students advancing to the American Moot Court Association's final national tournament: Emily Atherley and Kylie Barnhart reaching the quarterfinals as one of the top eight teams in the nation, and Kelly Bello and Maggie Cruz also qualifying. Four students, including Atherley and Barnhart, were recognized as top brief writers.

  • Physics Students Present Research at Annual APS Global Physics Summit - Physics Assistant Professor Sarah Grefe took several of her students to present their research at the in Denver, Colorado.

  • HR Management Certificate Program to Host Stacey Lewis Webinar - On Wednesday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m., MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú's  will host a free live Zoom webinar with Stacey Lewis, Founder and CEO of HR Interrupted and instructor in the HR Management program. With more than 35 years of HR leadership experience, including serving as Chief Human Resources Officer at the Port of Long Beach, Stacey will share real-world insight into what today’s employers expect from emerging HR professionals. The conversation will be ideal for those exploring HR for the first time, preparing to enter the workforce, or navigating a career transition. Please .

Who Will Take the Prize Home in This Year’s 2026 MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú Grad Slam Competition? - Graduate Studies is hosting its 6th annual Grad Slam Competition, where graduate students across all disciplines compete by communicating their work in a pre-recorded video in under 3-minutes using a single static slide. This year, Graduate Studies received 22 submissions. Come join us for the reveal of the winners on Monday, April 20 at 3 p.m. in the University LIB 201, Graduate Conference Space!
