Dr. Anna Ortiz will be the next dean of Cal State Long Beach’s College of Education, university Provost and Senior Vice President Karyn Scissum Gunn announced Friday.

Mike Muñoz hesitated when he was first asked to become interim superintendent-president of Long Beach City College in early 2021. The college had just experienced several top leadership transitions, and Muñoz wondered how things would be any more stable for him.

Growing up in Orange County, Antoinette Bailey didn’t have a single Black teacher during her K-12 years, and only about a quarter of her teachers were of color.

On March 1, the MD��ý��� College of Education (CED) received a unanimous recommendation of accreditation from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for 13 programs, a critical stamp of approval of how the college prepares future educators.

Nationally renowned professor, writer and racial equity expert Dr. Shaun Harper delivered a powerful lecture on some of the root causes of violence and racism, and how educators can collectively interrupt such “evil,” at a College of Education-hosted event at Cal State Long Beach Thursday night.
