CalTPA Guidance for Cooperating Teachers

The California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) is a state-mandated evaluation required of all candidates seeking an initial teaching credential in California, including those in Early Childhood Education, Multiple Subject, Single Subject, and Education Specialist programs. Designed to assess a candidate’s ability to plan, instruct, assess, and reflect on teaching practices aligned with California’s Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs), the CalTPA consists of two comprehensive cycles completed during the student teaching semester. Administered by Pearson and overseen by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the CalTPA ensures that future educators are prepared to effectively teach all K–12 students in alignment with state academic standards. At MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú, candidates receive structured support through seminar courses, workshops, and access to assessment materials, while cooperating teachers play a vital role in guiding and mentoring student teachers through this rigorous process.
