Barbara Kingsley-Wilson
Barbara Kingsley-Wilson is a full-time lecturer and Daily 49er content adviser at MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú. Before coming to MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú in 2004, she was a journalist for 20 years, covering courts, crime, education and sports for the Orange County Register, the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Rochester (N.Y) Times-Union. She also wrote sports for USA Today and worked as an intern with the Associated Press in Tel Aviv, Israel.
She graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's in journalism and later earned her master's and taught news writing as a fellow in the Kiplinger Mid-career Reporting Program at Ohio State University. She spent the summer of 1995 in Amman, Jordan, interviewing women and government officials as part of a grant to study women and sports. She worked for 10 years at the Register and taught journalism classes at USC.
She has won awards from the Associated Press, Orange County and Los Angeles press clubs and contributed stories to the Register’s Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of a fertility scandal. In 2016 she was named Educator of the Year by the California Journalism and Media Affiliates.
Her book, Long Beach State: A Brief History, was published in 2015. In summer 2019, she received a summer stipend to work for the Long Beach Post. She continues to freelance for news organizations including the Long Beach Post, the Press-Telegram and AARP media. She is a certified yoga instructor and enjoys biking and Broadway music. She lives in Long Beach with her family. Her coffee table book on LBSU history was published in September. She continues to freelance for news sites including the Long Beach Post and Long Beach Business Journal.
