Three Management Faculty members were promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure this Year

We are delighted to recognize three outstanding colleagues—Dr. Yoonhee Choi, Dr. Jonathan Phan, and Dr. HoWook Shin—on their well-deserved promotions to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Management and Human Resource Management. This milestone reflects years of dedication to research, teaching, and service, as well as their meaningful contributions to students, the College of Business, the University, and the broader academic community. Their scholarship has advanced important conversations in management and related disciplines, while their classroom leadership has inspired countless students. In addition, their service and outreach have enriched the university and connected MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú to our broader professional community. Yoonhee Choi Management Professor

has built a strong record as both a researcher and educator in strategic management and innovation management. During her time at MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú, she has published six scholarly articles—five as first author—in well-regarded journals such as the Journal of Business Research and British Journal of Management. She consistently earns high marks from students in courses like Business Strategy and Policy, where her clear instruction and enthusiasm foster student engagement and success. In addition to her teaching and scholarship, Dr. Choi has supported student life by advising two campus organizations, SAM and JE Flow. She has also played a key role in fostering scholarly exchange by organizing brownbag seminar series with CSU Sacramento and CSU Fullerton over the past three years. Her achievements reflect a dedication to advancing research, enriching student learning, and strengthening the academic community at MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú and beyond.

Wei Ming Jonathan Phan

 

is recognized for his impactful scholarship in human resource management, with a focus on careers, individual differences, and psychometrics. His research has gained more than 600 citations and attracted mainstream attention, including coverage in Forbes magazine for his work on vocational interests and job satisfaction. He has authored book chapters, technical reports, and journal articles in respected outlets such as the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology and Journal of Vocational Behavior. Dr. Phan is also an active reviewer for more than 10 leading journals and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Vocational Behavior. His innovative emoji-based career assessment methodology was adopted by the U.S. Department of Labor for its O*NET Interest Profiler, a tool taken by hundreds of thousands of Americans annually. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he and his collaborators received the Sage Publications/Research Methods Division Best Student Paper Award from the Academy of Management.

HoWook Shin Headshot

 

 

joined MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú’s College of Business in 2020 after serving as an Assistant Professor of Management at Bowling Green State University and earning his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Texas at Dallas. His examines firms’ strategic decision-making and performance in contexts of information asymmetry and environmental uncertainty, contributing to our understanding of how organizations thrive under complex conditions. At MD´«Ã½Èë¿Ú, Dr. Shin teaches undergraduate and MBA courses, including Business Strategy and Policy, International Business, Apostle Enterprise Lab, and Seminar in Strategic Management. His research has appeared in respected journals such as Organizational Dynamics, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and Multinational Business Review, and he received the Best Theory Paper Award from the Western Decision Sciences Institute. Dr. Shin also serves the academic community as a reviewer for leading journals, including the Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Business Research.
